The Women’s Initiative is an international, intergenerational and survivor-centered approach to addressing direct violence, structural violence and cultural violence that affect the women and girls of Birmingham. This initiative will be led by Birmingham women appointed by Mayor Randall Woodfin.

These women will work to solve issues through research, policy/advisory and community engagement. By focusing on women, the Office of Peace and Policy aims to interrupt the pipeline of violence at its inception to support intergenerational change. We believe that when a woman’s agency is impeded, the lives of their children, their families, and their communities are negatively affected, which in turn impacts the overall well-being of society. We are committed to creating pathways and enhancing the quality of life and justice for all women and girls. The involvement of men and non-binary folx is vital to this work as they are essential to naming and addressing the harms that impact this cross-section of our community.
